Help & Information

Since its founding, Info-Cult has received requests of different kinds:

  • help, advice and general support;
  • specific assistance;
  • mediation;
  • information, etc.

As a front-line community organization, Info-Cult is an essential intermediary resource to assist those who need help or information regarding cultic phenomena.

The request for services comes from all walks of life and include:

  • families and their loved ones;
  • former group members or active members;
  • stakeholders working in public, private or community organizations; (i.e. Department of Youth Protection, Integrated Health and Social Services Centres, Safe Houses, Commission of Human Rights and Youth Rights, etc.)
  • health care professionals;
  • media (radio, television, newspapers or others);
  • students, professors, researchers;
  • lawyers and legal experts;
  • police or public security services;
  • filmmakers and documentary filmmakers;
  • businesses, homeowners, schools, government agencies, etc.

Some religious beliefs and practices sometimes clash with norms established in various settings. Some of these situations may be dealt with in a court of law (sometimes up to the Supreme Court of Canada) and then become widely publicized, as in the case of the “reasonable accommodation” controversy in the early 2000s in Quebec. Info-Cult’s expertise and nuanced approach have contributed to peaceful solutions or a “concerted adjustment” in several situations, including:

  • holidays – religious or otherwise;
  • working conditions;
  • blood transfusions, vaccinations and other medical conditions;
  • clothing, religious or other symbols;
  • behaviours, practices, etc.;
  • schooling (private and public);
  • diet, etc.
